How to choose a perfect skirt and crop top

Lehenga/Ethnic skirt is more than a dashing statement clothing, it's very versatile and can be dressed up or down based on the occasion. It can all start with the choice of fabric and go to the silhouette of the blouse and the embellishments in dupatta. It's quite simple, you can make it to any party if you know how to choose the right lehenga.

Here is an example of how I styled one lehenga for two different occasions.

To make the lehenga look appropriate for both simple occasions and party wear, I got the same color frills stitched at the bottom using the silk fabric.

I wanted a full flare with lehenga, so I opted for multiple layers. The uppermost layer of course is the lehenga fabric (glass organza). As this fabric is transparent, I added a silk layer underneath the skirt. To add volume, I attached cancan and to avoid prickly feel lined it with cotton fabric.

To avoid the confusion here is the order

  1. Organza fabric

  2. 2. Silk fabric

  3. Cancan

  4. Cotton

In the below look for a simple occasion, I added a raw silk embroidered blouse. I chose a monochrome blouse but with contrast embroidery details. As the details are peacock green and blue colors, gold jewelry would look great on it. So, I opted for a high neck. However, if you want to look tall, I suggest not getting a high neck stitched. And you might now ask, how about jewelry ? You can pair it with emeralds or green beads.

Blouse silhouette : I got the blouse stitched with a high neck and a small cut in the front. The back of the blouse is more open.

Note: High neck blouses aren't a great option for women with large/bigger breasts. Also, the princess cut isn't a viable option of heavy breasted women.

Tip: Get your blouses stitched with princess cut and back buttons, so you can use them on lehengas as a crop top and can be paired with blouses too.

Length of the blouse: I am 5 foot tall, and a couple of people insisted on getting the blouse stitched with 14 inches length. I regret it much for listening to them now. Get the length of the blouse stitched according to your comfort. You wouldn't wear party wear every single day and roam around the house right, so it's okay to spend extra bucks and get them designed with a renowned designer / at a good boutique.

14 inch length is standard some designers say, but no it's not. I have blouses that are stitched with length 12 inches and I am absolutely comfortable in them rather than in any blouse.

Look 2 below: I didn't want to invest in another lehenga set, so I used the same lehenga but added heavy dupatta and a blouse. Adding a heavy dupatta or heavy blouse would change the name of the game and add extra touch effortlessly. To make this outfit party appropriate, I chose a blouse made of brocade fabric and dupatta is a heavy embellished one on organza fabric. As the dupatta was embellished i dint want to make the look extra heavy by adding ornaments. If i had to chose one, it would be a choker, that compliments the look.
