Introduction: Fast fashion has become a trend of the fashion industry, stimulating impulse purchases among millennials, Gen Y and Gen Z. As the fashion trends change from season to season, it is challenging to invest in pieces that never go out of style. Investing in time-less classics help your wardrobe planning and also minimize impulse buying behavior of the similar piece every year. I created a list of these time-less pieces that can be styled according to your personal lifestyle, by making little tweaks of your choice.
Note: This article is presentation of my thoughts and opinions about investing in particular pieces that have not slowed down in trend. This is not ‘a must have list of items’ but investing in these pieces are worth that stand test of time. I suggest considering factors such as lifestyle, personal fashion style, climate and your wardrobe theme before investing into your capsule collection. This blog post may include items that might necessarily not suit all climate conditions.
Trench coats: Trench Coat isn’t just a fashion piece worn by popular actresses on the screen but is a timeless classic that sails down the runways every year. The brands like Chanel, Coach, Gucci, Balenciaga and Hermes release their latest editions every year, with a little tweak adding to this garment. While this piece is a staple in any closet, Fall/Winter are considered the best time to incorporate trench coat into your everyday outfit. Work your way to highlight the trend; like create clinch at your waist pairing the coat with contrast belt or let it be open to show your underneath garments.
Of all the time less fashion pieces, undoubtedly a White-tee is the most simple and easy-to-style item. It can be worn from dawn to dusk, as this versatile piece can be styled in different ways. Whether pair it with a washed blue jean, layer it beneath a lace top, style it as a knot-tie top, tuck it into a bottom, or pair it with a blazer or even use it for your workout. This item could never disappoint you.
Silk Button Down Shirt: Not to exaggerate, but you would be surprised to know how much you could style with this single item. An oversized silk button down shirt can be used as dress and can be combined with a solid leather belt or with a blazer or wear it on skirt/jean/trousers or use it as an outerwear, this piece is compatible with literally anything in your closet. But yeah, choose the color wisely. Never to mention, neutrals are the colors that are never go out of style in any season.
LBD: A little Black Dress is kind of must-have in any girl’s wardrobe. A well-fitted LBD is always a savior, whenever you think: Oops, I have got nothing to wear. It’s a simple yet chic piece of clothing that goes right for every occasion. You can just keep it simple or make it livelier by choosing a different style. Add some designer accessories, and Voila you are all-set-go for a party.
Aviator Sunglasses: It's not just a style statement, but it’s a third piece that adds so much to the outfit. Originally designed in mid 1930’s to help pilots protect their eyes (that’s where the name is inspired from).
Cashmere Sweater : I strongly feel that women should embrace at least one classic cashmere sweater in her closet. You can get creative with styling, by pairing it with different combos like following
· Jeans, cashmere sweater and ankle length boots
· Cashmere sweater, sleeveless bomber jacket and jeans
· Jeans, cashmere sweater, scarf and a tote
· Jeans, sweater, leather jacket and leather boots
The options and combinations are truly endless
If you are allergic to the material, try a sweater made of other natural fabrics such as cotton, they serve the same purpose but might not live the test of time.
Denim Jacket: A jean jacket can create a rugged yet chic style around the year. This piece has stolen a place in wardrobes of Hollywood stars, people walking down Paris streets and a regular working woman too. Although the Levi’s Trucker jacket has made it popular, many other brands have created their versions of jean jacket.
Blazer: The Aura of blazer just uplifts the entire outfit. Blazers has become very common from boardrooms to cocktails. A Blazer dress is the trend that doesn’t seem to go out-of-style in near time. Thus investing in a blazer is always a good idea. My personal choice is: Tweed Blazer. This always remains classic and is an epitome of sophistication.
Accessories: Accessories are just not an addition, if styled appropriate they could change your fashion game. It’s not so simple to pick a right accessory that would match with most of your wardrobe staples. Here are the few accessories that are time-tested and never went out-of-style. French women are top of this game. They incorporate time-less accessories into their everyday outfits to look more polished.
A vintage handbag: It’s always a good idea to invest in vintage and signature pieces curated by brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Coach, Hermes, Chanel, YSL, Furla, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Micheal Kors or any designer brand of your choice. If you want to look for affordable options then fast-fashion brands like Zara and Mango are some of the best.
To look trendy around the year, you can opt for different handbags. Leather handbags work great for all the seasons other than in summer. For summers, pick a straw bag or a bamboo bag or transparent bag that comes with a pouch. One of my personal brands is Cult Gaia.
Hat: An oversized hat has never hurt anybody. Based on your body type choose the hat of your choice. It’s a piece that can be worn year long.
Watch: A time-less timepiece is not just a mere time showing piece but has evolved as a fashion accessory. Just pairing the right watch with a bracelet can remodel your entire look.
Belt: Waist belts create a structured look, adding an edge to your outfit. Pick a belt in neutral shade such as Tan Brown/Black/Ivory to match with most of your wardrobe staples.
High-heels: No girl ever said she is too tall to wear high-heels. High heels definitely are a savior for petites. A well- fitted pair of high-heels can be worn literally on any outfit you desire that makes you effortlessly look Aww-dorable.
Scarf: This piece of fashion statement can be worn round the year, if styled properly. It just become such a utility ranging from using to tie on hair, tie on the handle of handbag or to just wear it round the neck. Investing in a silk scarf is a good idea. I prefer to shop a polka-dot/solid/floral scarf that never goes out-of-style. You don’t have to particularly invest in a new handbag that comes with a scarf. Use your scarf and create a different look. Experiment with different scarf tying styles.
Jewelry: Styling different jewelry on same piece of outfit can change the overall look. Take inspiration from vintage jewelry pieces and add a touch of your customization to it. This piece could be heirloom, if chosen wisely. Layering necklaces, stacking rings and wearing couple of thin bracelets elevate your neckline, fingers and wrist.
Pearls remain classic, so try to incorporate Pearl earrings with combination
of diamonds/Swarovski/ CZs. A pearls ring, pendant and a pair of earrings are worth the investment.
Leather and Tweed: Leather and Tweed fashion pieces such as pants, skirt or coat are time-less classics. Invest in these pieces to create different look. They stand a long test of time and are ever-green pieces.
Slip dress/floral maxi dress : Spring/Summer wardrobe is incomplete without owning at-least one of these pieces. Floral prints have been since ages and seems like are in trend forever. A solid slip dress or floral maxi dress is a must have staple in any girl’s wardrobe. I prefer considering both.
Cowl neck/ turtleneck: A cowl neck/turtleneck top/dress/blouse is one of the ever-green classic pieces that can be worn on repeat every year.
