Outfit Ideas for Petites

Slipping into the pieces that snuggle me right places seemed like a dream for several years. The only reason for that is, I am a Petite. Over the years of trial and error I understood that dressing can be made easier by simply ruling out what doesn’t fit you or just by knowing what not to wear. If you are struck in the thought just like I was, thinking that clothes don’t fit you right because you have a shorter frame, then it’s wrong. It’s completely possible that you might be wearing a wrong piece of cloth, that isn’t the best for your body type. So, in this article I am going to take you through certain guidelines on how to dress if you are a Petite.

WHAT IS A PETITE FRAME?

Determining if you’re a Petite has nothing to do with your weight but is all about your proportions and height. Petites come in different sizes & body shapes and here are the key characteristics which indicate you fall under that category.

1. You are 5’4” or under

2. Sleeves and shoulders are long for your height

3. For non-cropped styles, the length of inseam is 27 inches or less

4. Pockets, straps and other details of the outfit doesn’t seem to fall in the right places

5. Your Overall height isn’t a matter to determine if you are a petite- a person with shorter inseam may have a longer upper body which makes them choose regular size tops but wear petite clothes on bottom or vice versa.

Try cropped silhouettes:

A cropped top creates a visual illusion of longer legs and is an easy way to rock ‘on-the-trend’ dimension. Pair it up with a high-waisted jean to avoid the bulky look on the top. The other best tops for petite women are off-the-shoulder and three-quarter sleeves.

Three-quarter sleeves make your arms look longer than full sleeves top. Off-the-shoulder top creates a space between your neck and chest making an elongated effect. When you opt for off-the-shoulder top try to wear a chain or a choker.

Try gathered or wrap styles

A button-down dress is obviously not your friend as it can swallow you up and makes the entire look accidental. To create an impact that you have made your outfit look polished, opt for gathered or wrap styles. Gathered and wrap styles create clinched waist effect.

Make a suit set your friend

A tailored pantsuit looks effortlessly great on all body frames and works great for all petite sizes. Suit pants paired with a blazer looks dressier for someone with short lower body frame.

Vertical stripes are your mate

Vertical stripes create an elongated effect, while horizontal stripes create wide frame look.

Corset tops and structured dress

Oversize tops and boxy dresses definitely are not a great pick for petites, although they seem very comfortable to wear round the clock. Tops or dresses that are smocked at the waist are a way to show your figure. Well, who doesn’t like to highlight their best features?

Try Solid Jumpsuits

Be it a short or tall frame, jumpsuits never upset you. Do I really have to emphasize how great do solid jumpsuits look on shorter frames? Have a look at the picture, you surely will fall prey, because that’s deniable to have not a jumpsuit.

Straight fit and High-rise denims

Oversized denims drown petite figures. Straight leg trousers and high-rise denims are your go-to picks.

Skirts never disappoint you

Circle skirts, miniskirts and midi skirts never disappoint a short cute girl. See to it that, you don’t wear a skirt that hits at the widest part of your calf-muscle. The blind rule to pick a skirt is: the skirt should hit right above your knee.

Wonders come in small bags too

My simple go-to funda is : A mini bag for a mini me. Small bags are the best for shorter frames, as an oversized bag makes you more teeny-weeny.

Almonds are just not good for health, but for heels too

Do not get confused, I just meant that almond shaped toe heels make your legs look more polished. Avoid wide/ open toe/ square toe footwear and chunky straps around the ankle.

* Wear ‘V’ line tops/dresses.

* Avoid wearing very contrasting tops with your bottoms.

*Avoid knee-length boots, instead opt for ankle length footwear.

*Know the right width of your belt: Although a belt seems merely like an accessory, it can make or break the game.

*Avoid double breasted, as these styles add width rather than the length.

*Say no to big prints. Bigger prints easily catch an unwanted attention and makes you look further shorter.
